Fit Tips: Quarantine Edition

It’s no doubt that we are currently living in very uncertain and eerie circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic. Being stuck inside our homes is not only a struggle in the sense that we are unable to physically connect but it also affects out physical health. With gyms closed down and the weather not cooperating as it should for spring (at least for those of us in the North) it’s hard to not only stay motivated but to just be able to work out and stay healthy. So here are a few tips that have helped me stay fit while stuck in quarantine.

Online fitness classes:

One thing that we should be grateful for is the internet and not just for Netflix and Disney Plus. There are so many free fitness classes on YouTube that have helped to get me moving and burn tons of calories in the process. Two of my favorite fitness channels are POPSUGAR Fitness and Pamela Reif.

POPSUGAR Fitness has a multitude of different classes ranging from kickboxing, yoga and HIIT. MY favorite videos are definitely the HIIT classes because the offer a variety of movements that include a cardio, ab and strength workout. The best thing about POPSUGAR is that they have modified movements in every video so that if you are unable to do a specific movement there is an alternative that is just as effective.

Pamela Reif’s channel is a fantastic channel with tons of workout options that are sure to make you sore the next day. Her channel is definitely more advanced, however, if you are up to a challenge, I recommend any of her ab workouts. They are KILLER!

Learn to Cook!

There is no better time than now to learn a new skill and cooking is one that is great to know. Healthy meal prep is something that not only take up a lot of your quarantine time but its fun and allows you to learn your way around a kitchen.

Again, the internet is a great place to find recipes and new meals to try! Blogs like Domesticate ME, Nutrition Stripped, Fed and Fit and so many more offer tons of recipes that keep you full and satisfied while also still being health conscious.

Walk, Walk, Walk

If you’re lucky and don’t have snow on the ground, go take a walk. Just because were in quarantine doesn’t mean we can’t go out and enjoy the great outdoors! (while social distancing, of course.) So go put on your sneakers, pop in some headphones with good tunes and go out and explore your neighborhood.

However, if your located in the Midwest, this is a tough one considering we're still dealing with snowstorms. Even though there’s snow on the ground we can still find ways to walk. If you’re like me and live in a larger apartment complex you can go and walk the halls and the stairwells. It’s certainly not the same as walking outside but it’s at least out of your apartment.

Here are just a few of the ways I have managed to stay active while stuck at home. I hope that you all are safe and doing well. We may be separated for now but we can still remain strong in the process!

Have courage and always be kind,
