Polar Bear Plunge

I always love to try new things! So, I decided to start my new year off by crossing something off of my bucket list. I have always wanted to participate in a polar bear plunge. Most polar bear plunges are just for fun, however I decided to find one that had some meaning behind it. This plunge was a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is made up of “Tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-A-Wish® vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. In the United States and its territories, on average, a wish is granted every 35 minutes. We believe a wish experience can be a game-changer. This one belief guides us and inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.”

The challenge was located at Lucky Peak Marina in Idaho! First, we tried to get as warm as possible in our vehicles, then it was time to brave the cold. When they started to count down I grabbed Katie, Miss Idaho International’s hand and we began to run into the water. Did I mention we were still wearing our crowns and banners?! After jumping into the freezing water, we ran with our clothes to the heated tents to attempt to regain feeling in our bodies. When it was all said and done, I am glad that I was able to be a part of this fun event for a great cause even though it was 10 degrees outside.
