Funding Your Next Pageant with a Silent Auction
Have you wanted to participate in a pageant but currently don’t have the means to pay for it? Worry no more because silent auctions are a perfect way to raise funds for your next pageant!
Many businesses are more likely to donate goods if they cannot give you cash directly. It’s also a great way to get networking in your community with your title. Another benefit is that you can donate part of your proceeds to a charitable organization of your choice, which often is another incentive for people to want to attend.
Planning your event:
1. Pick a date that gives you enough time to prepare.
2. Pick your location - Make a list of potential venues. Find a place that is willing to use the space without charge. One of my personal favorites is cafes/coffee shops because this can bring in foot traffic to their business. They also already serve drinks and snacks so you don’t have to worry about catering. Pick a place that already holds open mic nights so they have the sound capabilities as well.
3. Find entertainment. Church worship groups often are willing to donate their time! Ask if they have played at similar events in the past and if they have a good set list of cover songs to last about two hours.
4. Gather donations. The best way to do this is to draft a letter detailing your event and what people/businesses can do to help. Start with places you frequent but also be creative. For example- the local mechanics may offer a tune up or oil change certificate.
5. Advertise. Print flyers, ask if the radio will sponsor a brief segment to interview you about event as well. Put in on your social media. Pass out small postcards to your coworkers or classmates.
