Hiring Our Heroes

There are roughly 20 million veterans in the United States. Of them, 5.4% are unemployed. Thousands upon thousands of men and women that risked their life to protect us and defend our nation, and world, can’t find jobs. Transitioning from the military and back into civilian life is not easy in itself. However, coming from the military, where it is quite possibly the only job you have ever known, and trying to determine what jobs you qualify for now can be overwhelming.

When Justin finally made the decision to get out of the Army, I remember him not knowing where to start, or how to even go about finding a job. He is a very well educated guy with a double degree from West Point. Clearly, one would think that he would know how to go about finding a job. The point is, is that some of these men and women are enlisting in the military straight out of high school and may not have a clue as to how to find a job, much less how to write a resume.

These men and women truly are qualified to do most jobs, but understanding how their military experience equates to a civilian job is often misunderstood by not only them, but also by employers. Luckily, there are organizations like Hire Heroes that veterans can look to for help with resume building, career opportunity days and training programs.

If you happen to be a small business owner or have any influence in a large corporation, always look to hiring those that put their life on the line for you.

Until the Mission is Complete,
