Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade
It was a brisk 40° morning, but all the warm hearts of Santa’s helpers kept away the chill. These elves came on the back of motorcycles in one of the longest and largest parades of its kind.
I was invited to serve as a grand marshal for the 36th annual Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle parade. I covered this event several years ago for Fox News Chicago. I had been astounded at the enormous amount of toys donated. It has continued to grow since then. The event’s president told me this year there would likely be 70-thousand bikes carrying toys!
Chicago police were all out keeping streets along the 17-mile parade route closed for us. Yes, 17 miles! For more than five hours motorcycles from all over Illinois and neighboring states paraded in to a university parking lot donating more than 100,000 toys. Unbelievable! Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming and to Les Fortier for inviting me along for the ride! You all are definitely on Santa’s good list.
Be the change!
