What to Carry On & What to Check

The time has come to start packing for nationals. Some of you may choose to drive if you’re within a reasonable distance, but for those of you flying, you will most likely have to connect on your journey to Charleston, WV. So you may be asking yourself, what should you check and what should you carry on the plane.

Here are some great suggestions on what you should carry on the plane while traveling to nationals, and then check everything else.

Carry-On Suggestion List:
  • Competition Wardrobe (Stage Gown, Go Red Gown for Mrs. /Fun Fashion Miss/Teen/Pre-Teen, Interview, and Fitness)
  • Orientation outfit with shoes
  • Set of neutral undergarments
  • Sash
  • Itinerary, handbook, and hotel shuttle information
  • Basic cosmetics and toiletries
  • One set of overnight pajamas and a basic change
Once Again, these are only suggestions. We all know there are unexpected delays and loss of items sometimes when traveling. These are suggestions based upon time and importance. All of you spend a good amount of time and money in purchasing your competition wardrobe and it’s altered to fit, they are the most important pieces in your luggage, so carry them on! The rest are items to get you through the initial 24-48 hours if need be. You can always ship, purchase there at the mall, or prime any other items lost or forgotten, if desperate.

Please keep in mind the two different types of aircraft you may be on, only smaller planes fly into Charleston, so most likely if you carried on an overhead roller you may have to check it at the gate at your connecting fight. But no worries, you’ll get it right after exiting the plane, so don’t let this worry you about bringing the max you can carry on. It’s always better to be prepared for the unexpected than begin such an important week stressed and without the necessities. Safe travels and see you in Charleston!
