JDRF Kids Walk!

I am so grateful to the Western New York chapter of JDRF, fighting to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. They have welcomed me so warmly into their family. In addition to inviting me to participate as a committee member for the annual gala, I am joining them for some really exciting events at local area schools. Kids Walks are designed to educate young people about Type 1 Diabetes and how it affects their friends who live with the disease. It gives them a chance to fundraise and experience, for some, their first walk for a good cause.

The first walk of the 2013-2014 school year took place this past week on a misty, gloomy, chilly day at North Park Middle Academy. Despite the less than favorable weather spirits were high as the middle school students bounded around the outer triangle of the school. Many carried homemade posters that featured the signature JDRF Kids Walk shoe (look familiar? You may have seen them at a retailer in your community!), others gave us high fives and boasted megawatt smiles as we cheered them on.

I cannot stress enough how volunteerism seriously does warm your heart in even the most trying situations. Even when weather doesn’t cooperate, if you think of the difference you are making it can help your gloves feel a little thicker and the rain a little lighter.

Some of our walkers!

Seek Happiness,

Jesse
