National Walking Day

April 2nd was National Walking Day! This special day was part of the American Heart Association’s “My Heart. My Life.” which is a national call-to-action for Americans to embrace a heart healthy lifestyle.

Walking is so easy to do! Young or old it’s probably the easiest ways to get active and stay in shape. But, in today’s fast paced world we tend to spend more time working than ever before and the unfortunate side effect is that we're becoming more inactive.

This is a huge problem especially when you consider the fact that by not exercising you double the risk of getting heart disease! But there’s good news! It’s a problem we can fix!

The American Heart Association and I encourage you to lace up your sneakers and take at least 30 minutes out of your day to get up and walk. This is a perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to get friends and family started on the right track to a healthier life.

Share your photo and tag the American Heart Association on Instagram! Make sure to hashtag #AHALaceUp and #NationalWalkingDay too!

Love,

Haley Pontius
