Choosing a Platform

Your platform is not only a huge part of your score, but it’s a huge part of your life and how you prepare for your upcoming year as a state, regional or country titleholder.

When choosing a platform you want to find a cause or movement that you deeply care about. You then want to find an organization that has national or international reach. You need an organization that will have enough events for you to volunteer at, or an organization that will allow you to create events of your own.

Your platform should have a nice clean, catchy name. While my platform promotes The Moyer Foundation’s Camp Erin and Our House Grief Support Center- it is actually called “Hold On To Hope- Because No Child Should Grieve Alone.”

Once you have a platform chosen and named- you should come up with clear and precise goals that you have for your platform during your year and if you were to win the International crown. I highly recommend keeping a journal and blogging about all of your community service work!

While at any community service events or public appearances it is always important to remember that you are a representative of the International system and your platform. It is a good idea to always have business cards with you and network with the people you meet, you never know, they could become great connections or sponsors!

Remember, the most important thing about choosing a platform is that you should be PERSONALLY connected to it. When speaking to your community or to your pageant judges you want them to be able to see how much you truly care and that you are able to speak from your heart!

I was able to speak from my heart about Hold On To Hope because it is something I truly care about and had worked so hard to represent during my reign as Miss West Coast INTL 2014

If you are still stumped- do some research on the former queens from your state or International titleholders and maybe it will spark a fire inside you for a similar cause! Please feel free to reach out to me or either of my sister queens for advice! I cannot wait to read about all of the wonderful platforms you have all chosen!!!

Ignite your spark,

Samantha Riddle
Miss International 2014
