Go Red Total Makeover

Go Red for Women has been taking action for 10 years now. There's been much accomplished over the last decade. 34% fewer women are dying of heart disease each year. And we know women who Go Red are more likely to make healthy choices. In fact, 89% will make at least one healthy change in their life.

This year Go Red along with their long-time national sponsor, Macy’s, decided to kick off Heart Month with a Total Makeover Challenge. Beyond hair and make-up, this makeover was about updating health habits. Chicago was one of seven cities targeted for this new event. I was thrilled to have my dear friend, and Mrs. Illinois International 2010-Jennifer Naida, accompany me. She has been involved with AHA for years. We had a wonderful time seeing everyone. And all the lovely ladies came decked out in their red, ready to be made over!

Over 250-women registered for the event. Each were given passports to be stamped at different sections of the enormous Macy’s. The areas offered ladies healthy cooking tips, CPR training, health screenings and plenty of goodies along the way. Everyone then turned in their stamped passports to be eligible for prizes such as a $250.00 gift card from Macys.
