Fun Fashion
Fun fashion is my favorite phase of competition. The fun fashion competition is just that: fun! Fun fashion is your time to show off your style and personality and have fun with it. Since you can wear anything from cocktail dresses to a pantsuit, fun fashion can be a lot more difficult to prepare for than the evening gown competition. Here are some tips to help you prepare:
Show your style!
This phase of the competition is all about your own unique style. Think about what makes you feel most beautiful and confident. Is it a lovely two-piece floral or a colorful jumpsuit? There are usually no rules when it comes to your fun fashion outfit other than having it be tasteful and age appropriate, so try out a few different styles before deciding on anything. Looking into new fashion trends also shows the judges how up to date you are on current fashions, which is always a plus! I would highly recommend getting in touch with Joey Rutherford at the Competitive Image to help you select the perfect Fun Fashion outfit!
Be ready to show your fun personality!
Fun fashion is your time on stage to show off your personality, so be sure to give it all you’ve got! Lose the nerves, and be confident in what you bring to the stage! The music for fun fashion is going to be fun and upbeat, so don’t be afraid to add a little bounce in your step! You want to make sure that you stand out on stage in a good way, so make sure your smile is always genuine and show that you really are having fun.
Practice! Practice! Practice!
I can’t stress this enough! Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to your runway walk. Practicing in front of a mirror can help you to decide what poses look best or where the best place is for a turn. Adding a turn in your fun fashion walk is a great way to show off your modeling skills onstage. Walking turns are hard though, so don’t forget to practice on flooring that is like what you will be walking on onstage. Also, remember to practice in the shoes that you will be wearing for the actual competition; you may think that you will be happy wearing a stiff new pair of shoes, but when you’re standing on stage getting blisters, you’re going to wish you had broken them in!
Have Fun!
Having fun with your outfit is the best part of the whole fun fashion competition! If you have a dress with flowy skirt, play with it to add a little fun as you’re walking towards the judges. Also, if you have a cape or jacket, don’t be afraid to rip it off in the middle of your walk to add some flare! In order to look like you’re having fun onstage, you really have to have fun!
Be confident in who you are and all that you have prepared for. This competition is your time to shine, so don’t walk or dress a certain way just because a previous winner did, be yourself and be honest about what you feel most confident in. Just because everyone else is wearing a certain look, doesn’t mean you have to! Don’t be afraid to show off your personal style, and always remember to be yourself—that is what will make you stand out most onstage!

I chose bright yellow in a completely different style than anything I had seen in hopes of standing out!
