AHA's Healthy Family Training Camp

The American Heart Association is dedicated to helping save lives because today 1 in 3 American children are overweight or obese. But we believe we can change that and stop the increase of childhood obesity and reverse the trend by 2020. And to help with that the American Heart Association First Coast put together a Healthy Family Training Camp in Jacksonville, FL!

There were themed areas featuring learning stations geared towards kids and their parents. They showcased smart nutrition choices, health screenings and games to keep them moving! One station taught the importance of food proportions while another allowed kids to plant seeds in little cups and take them home to plant in their yards after they grow. (In which I now have a beautiful sunflower sprouting out of a pot in my bedroom.)

And I happily ran the hands only CPR station! I was busy all day long teaching kids, teens, adults and people of all ages the easy steps to hands only CPR and getting to work with them one on one.

The event was complete with Zumba classes, fresh fruit from the farmers market and games that kept the children active while having fun.

The Healthy Family Training Camp is just part of the AHA’s mission in action. This event is one of many that evokes active, year-round participation in physical activity and healthy nutrition for families.

The Healthy Family Training Camp’s goal was to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun, family friendly environment and that’s exactly what they did.

All my love,

Haley Pontius
