Play Your Part

Recently, I traveled across the country to the City of Angels…Los Angeles, California. National CASA asked me to help with “Play Your Part.” It’s a joint event with the Toy Industry Foundation (TIF) who has been a wonderful partner of CASA. Leading the effort was National CASA CEO Michael Piraino and TIF Exec. Dir. Jean Butler.

More than 26 major toy companies from CA brought close to 50-thousand toys to the Beverly Hills Storage and Transfer which is actually located next to Compton. Over 200-volunteers from these companies gathered with us in 94-degree heat to create gift bags that were age and gender specific. And inside each bag was a personal note of hope.

It was a machine of activity!

The children will LOVE these surprises!

You know it’s a HUGE event when the LA news stations are there along with other media! Big markets like NY, LA and Chicago are usually too busy to cover feel-good news.

There are 20-thousand foster children in Los Angeles County alone! The state has over 55-thousand kids living in foster care. Many of these children don’t have toys of their own. These gift bags will be given to them for birthdays and other fun reasons.

Ready to load the toys on to trucks for parts of southern California!

We celebrated the hard work with a lunch for everyone. Jean, Michael and I were able to thank everyone for playing their part.

Those 6-thousand gift bags and 40-thousand other toys will go to the foster children in the Los Angeles area and CASA programs throughout the state. I know everyone’s efforts will make life a bit brighter for these sweet children living in foster care.

Be the change!
